Music plays an important role in the daily life of Morpeth, with all pupils being encouraged to participate in music-making and fostering musical ability at the highest level.
Reeds in the big band
With concert bands, an orchestra, chamber ensembles, rock bands, choirs, music projects with outside agencies and more than 17 specialist music staff, the Music Department at Morpeth is one of the busiest and liveliest in the borough.We are Musical Futures Champion School.

Music technology
Housed on the ground floor of North Wing, the department boasts two large teaching classrooms with interactive whiteboards fully equipped with a range of instruments, 1 ICT suite with Apple Macs running Live, Logic, Sibelius, Reason and Garageband, 6 small practice rooms, instrumental store room, world music room, large rehearsal room and a recording studio with live room.
Outside links
Over the past decade strong links have been formed with various outside agencies including Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Barbican Education, local primary schools and the Institute of Education. New links and projects include work with New York, Lincoln Jazz Centre, LSO, THAMES, Richmix to name but a few.
The drummer
Following the national curriculum at Key Stage 3, the department has built up an exciting and varied programme of study which includes performance skills, creative work and appraisal, which, combined with the development of ICT and the extensive extra-curricular programme ensures that our students have the opportunity pursue their interest in music to the highest level.

The quality of teaching and learning is very good and excellent in Years 10 and 11. The links with the community are exceptionally strong and very much enhance the provision.
