The Year 9 reporters - Amini, Sayma & Anita –
have based their project on ‘Ethical Fashion’ & they attended a conference organised by the ‘Ethical Fashion Forum’.
They filmed interviews with the delegates, learned about Fairtrade products such as cotton & designed some ethical Barbie makeovers!
The event took place at ‘Rich Mix’ – originally a traditional garment factory - in Bethnal Green.
This is how the conference was advertised -
“Fashion both reflects and influences social change. In a time when we are increasingly concerned with the impact of the fashion industry on people and the planet students need to be equipped with the tools to design the way we make and consume fashion differently. Fashioning an Ethical Industry is part of a growing global movement within fashion education that is addressing ethical issues to bring about this change. This two day international conference will bring together educators, industry experts, academics and selected students in London, to explore how fashion can be taught to inspire responsibility for the rights of the workers making our clothes.”
