HUNDREDS OF BOOKS GO IN BIG BOOK GIVE AWAY

Over 100 hundred people turned out in the cold and rain to pick up free books from Morpeth School’s Big Book Giveaway, on Thursday 27th April 2017.

Of the 2,000 plus books up for grabs, nearly 75% were taken; the remainder will be given to local charities.

Making the most of the Give Away, were members of the East London Scout Group, who took away scores of books to send to overseas learning centres, where children are taught to speak English.

Also attending were:

Year 7 pupil Erin and her mum Lyndsey who said: “This is a wonderful event, I like it”

Passer by, Gareth who popped in after picking up a leaflet. He described the Give Away as “quite remarkable”

Event organiser, Morpeth School Librarian, Amanda Ball said:

“Thank you to everyone who turned up to our second Big Book Giveaway, we’re delighted the event went so well and we’re already planning next year’s.

“It’s also a pleasure to know our books will be used by other organisations such as the Scouts, to spread English literature and encourage reading.

The Big Book Giveaway was organised to mark World Book Night, a yearly event held by the Reading Agency.
