Launch of Summer Reading Challege

The English Department’s Summer Reading Challenge has been launched for pupils in years 8 and 9.

Students are encouraged to read at least two books during the long holiday break and to complete four challenges in response to what they have read.

Challenges they can choose from include:

  • Designing and making a t-shirt
  • Writing a comic version of a book
  • Creating a board or card game based on one of the books
  • Writing questions for an interview with one of the characters featured.

Prizes will be given to the most imaginative, unique and original response projects.

English teacher Mr Cannell said: “We urge pupils to keep on reading throughout the Summer holiday; it’s a pleasurable thing to do and is crucial to success in all subjects at school.”
